Special Events at a Special Place

Many of the people who rent our place are looking to do so for a very special reason. For some it may be a family reunion, for others a special birthday and for a few it has been a wedding. People choose to rent our place because of the number of bedrooms, the two large porches and, of course, the sandy beach. We also have a good bit of lawn to work with and a tremendous amount of privacy. Finally, for large events, it is possible to rent the neighboring houses and have sleeping for 25-30 people, plus half of our cove to yourselves.

For our son's wedding we filled all three homes plus the Normandie Beach Club, the Inn on the Library Lawn, as well as putting people at Westport Hotel and the local Bed and Breakfasts. There is actually plenty of lodging off season to accommodate large groups.

But to attempt a large gathering in July or August would require at least a couple of year's planning and notice. So if you're looking at numbers in the 75+ range, we suggest June and September.

Our side lawn made an ideal setting for our family wedding. It easily sat the 100 guests and the backdrop of the lake made it picture perfect. We chose to use several venues for our event. We had a Welcome Party on the point at Normandie Beach Club, and they did a nice job of catering and even set up bocci and croquet for our guests to enjoy during cocktails.

For the reception we picked a place that had so many memories for our family, Le Bistro, known to locals as “the Yacht Club.” With tent and “dance floor” actually jutting out into the lake, it couldn't have been more scenic. The Bride and Groom arrived by boat, to the surprise of the guests, and as the sun set the twinkling lights under the tent made for a perfect party atmosphere.
